Entry from: Cairns, Australia Entry Title: "Australia - 1770 to Cairns" Entry: "Ok so we left you in the rain in 1770 ... low and behold the sun came out and as we only had a few hours left in 1770 before our night bus and we hadn't seen much of the town a local eco-tour guide called John offered to take us on a free whistle-stop tour of the area ... it was really pretty but not much there so we were glad we hadn't paid the each for the Scooteroo trip. We got the impression from John that 1770 is more than a town, it's a way of life. There are 132 housing plots and there will never be any more as it is surrounded by national parks. Very different from places like Ingleby Barwick back home where it just keeps growing. He also likes the fact that sometimes the local store runs out of things ... I think we take 24 hour Tesco for granted! Lois was disappointed that we didn't have time to do a surf lesson as 1770 is the last place you can go in the sea without a stinger suit nd the possibility of being snaffled by a saltwater croc. She was really looking forward to it but there was just no time. After saying goodbye to the friendliest and cleanest hostel we have encountered so far 'Cool Bananas' we caught the night bus to Airlie Beach ready for our sailing trip around the Whitsunday Islands ...

Normally for these tours its 5am starts and the like but thankfully for this one we are meeting at our hostel at 9am. We grab breakfast of fresh juice at a place beside us - even if food and coffee isn´t too flash here in South America at least there are always places to get a good fresh juice. The lady from the tour company arrives and takes us down to the office a few blocks away. We chain together our large backpacks as best we can. They sit in the office but only 5 metres away from the door out in the open so we are all a little bit weary of someone just wandering in and taking them. We put our passports in the ´safe´ which is really just a locked drawer. After the usual amount of hanging around waiting for things to get organised we pile into our jeep which will take us out the 2 hours to the start of the trek. Our group consists of the 7 of us from San Gil plus one other guy that turned up last night from San Gil so its great to have a group where we know everyone. There is one new person in our group, a girl from Ireland but she seems really nice and fits in well. We have Gavin the crazy Scot, Glen the good value Kiwi, Abe the cocky dutch boy that is the deserving ...

Succeeded in avoiding other people apart from some runners who set off ahead of us and we never saw again ?! 60 kilometre trek which apparantly you can run in the yearly Kepler challenge. Yeah right ! Today was supposed to be a steady walk though forests around the lake before a incline up to limestone bluffs then out onto the mountain top for a night in the first hut - The Luxmore Hut.No problems with the first leg but quite a steep climb through the forests before breaking out into the alpine grassland. Rain had been light all morning in the forest and the raindrops were reflecting the light off all the moss and hanging greenery. Very Lord of the rings ! The limestone bluffs had some walkways guiding you through the forest, soem of which had been washed away so we needed to do some sidetracking on alternative paths. Given that we would only be travelling one-way and missing the final dive stop at Ko Rok, our tour tickets were discounted by about 40% of the usual tour cost. The first stop on the tour was snorkelling off the boat on a reef off Ko Hai. Brilliantly clear water and healthy coral rates this possibly the best snorkelling we've seen in SE Asia. Next we stopped at the entrance to the Emerald Cave (Morakot Cave) on Ko Muk. We had read and heard a fair bit about this stop: the open-air cave is accessible only by swimming or kayaking through an 80m winding tunnel in total darkness, hopefully avoiding the resident bats. Fortunately, you are provided with a lifejacket which means that the swimming is easy. There were 3 guides on our tour who entered the tunnel with flashlights so navigating the tunnel was a matter of swimming in total darkness in the direction of the next torchlight. And each tourguide was so kind as to point out with his torchlight the masses of bats hanging ...

Held [Paris White] Tube. Duration : 4.28 Mins.

"How it feels when the sacred is torn from your life, and you survive" Paris Lavone White was born July 4, 2003 at 8:50 am She was her family's princess from the very start. She loved the color pink and Boo Boo's (blankets). She loved dancing with her daddy, painting nails or eating with her mommy, and swimming, playing in the park, and chasing each other around the kitchen with her brothers. She loved wearing her smim suit (swim suit) and asked to wear one everyday. She also liked wearing rain boots, backpacks, and "bling blings" (earings). On July 14, 2005, just 10 days after her 2nd birthday, Paris was following her 4-year-old brother to their grandmother's home which was on the same property as theirs. She had stopped following him, but he didn't know. Paris had drowned in the family pool. Paris is survived by her parents, Paul and Deanna, brothers Paul Jr. (and his wife, Katie), Brian, Skyler, Hunter, and Cooper, and sisters, Stephanie and Chelsea. She is also survived by grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Paris now has two little sisters, Dallis and Lexis. Dallis is friends with Katrina, Mara Adams' little sister. Indonesia is the biggest archipelago in the world with over 15, 000 islands made by volcanoes. It seems there are world class disasters here every year. It's hard to classify that many islands and cultures as one country, that's why there have been so many dictators in Indonesia's history, unity through the old iron fist. They recently lost East Timor to independence and are likely to lose more as they stride towards democratization. Indonesia is mostly Muslim, the largest Muslim nation in the world and has the 4th largest population in the world. However, the people of Bali aren't Muslim. They are a distinctly different culture than the people of Java, Indonesia's second largest island and most populated. Java has Jakarta, dubbed the "Big Durian" and most of the country's history. Sumatra is the biggest island, but the most devastated by the Boxing Day Tsunami that usually gets associated with Thailand. Indonesia lost over 220000 lives, Thailand around 5395 with another 2000 missing, but some were of European decent so the media deemed them worthy and thus Thailand ...

Picked up by our rep along with another couple, also on honeymoon, we set off on a 2 hour drive into the Jungle. Then onto a longboat right into the wilderness to find our floating lodge for the night. One word only - WOW! A few huts bobbing gently on a huge lake surrounded by rainforest and the sounds of wildlife. We had lunch, Thai curry, of course...and when you tried to be polite, not being able to eat anymore, but forcing yourself.....they would take away your bowl....and bloody bring it back 2 minutes later filled back to the brim! After lunch, Dean went for a swim out into the lake - perfect clear turquoise waters. Michelle hopped into a kayak and had a paddle around - the pictures can't start to explain how amazing this place is. Now, along with the benefits of being in the middle of nowhere in your own little paradise comes a few downsides - 1. Electricity....none of it ...

Eat muesli (whoops - hope noone notices I threw mine away) Put on boots and get ready to walk. Entry from: Cairns, Australia Entry Title: "Arrival in Oz" Entry: "We are in Australia! When we started our trip Oz seemed like it was ages away, but it snuck up on us very fast. We landed in Brisbane and took a conecting flight upto Cairns, and it was here that we realised how expensive Australia was going to be. We were lucky that teh hostel we checked into gave us a free evening meal, with the option of a , or upgrade. We upgraded the first night and treated ourselves to a huge dinner, and then made the most of the free food for our remainding nights. Cairns is really pretty, and it suprised me, given that it is one of the main locations to dive on the great barrier reef, that there isnt actually a beach in cairns, and you cant swim in the sea as its full of crocs and stingers. Instead, Cairns has a man-made Lagoon. Entry from: Moyogalpa, Nicaragua Entry Title: "Hot, humid, but worth the struggle...but one day" Entry: "We hope all our dear readers appreciate our work. Internet in Ometepe is so slow that a sloth just fell off the keyboard next to Veronika a few minutes ago waiting for an upload. We will persevere! So talking about today, after another pancake brekkie we started our journey around the island with its 2 volcanos. We rented a jeep from the hotel Oemetepl ( dollars for 12 hrs). It turned out, it might be the only vehicle to rent on the island, but more to that later... After about 10 km around the forst volcano, we decided to stop in a little beach hotel (Laguna Verde or something like that) to have a proper coffee. It really is difficult to find strong coffee in Nicaragua even though they are one of the manufacturing countries. The problem is that they export most of it, so they must leave a couple of grains for locals! On the way back to the road we met a backpacking couple and decided to give them a ride, it was already hot at 9am, and their backpacks looked huge! It turned out it was a couple from New York which we had seen in the hostel at Granada, but she was Finnish, and they were "between jobs", moving back to Helsinki. Vero wished the Amercian guy "Good Luck" in learning Finnish, after ...
