Entry from: Parque Nacional Huerquehue, Chile Entry Title: "The importance of pack weight" Entry: "Monday 23 January 2006 Getting an overnight bus to Pucon from Santiago was a breeze and as we got off the bus and walked the short distance to the smaller bus terminal we walked straight onto another microbus heading towards Huerquehue national park where we would be hiking for 4 days. The bus ride had some pretty awesome scenery and took us to the very entrance of the park. Our bus was pretty full with Chilean day trippers and hikers. We were the only ones though carrying a tent and hefty backpacks. Whilst signing our names and paying the park entrance fee the park ranger eyed up our backpacks and suggested that we leave some stuff at the entrance as the first part of the hike was fairly uphill. We jumped at the opportunity to lighten our backpacks of all the winter gear we had brought for further down south and left our day bag and a plastic bag chock full of gear. He also handed us a map and off we set on a beautiful, sunny day. Now, this was our first hike since before Christmas and New Year and if you have read those entries which were full of tales of fine foods and a lot of drinking and nothing much else, then you would realise that we had eaten more than Jason Greig (my old boss) at an all you ...
