Entry: "After a deep sleep we woke up and had a real breakfast sponsored by the grands, what we really needed before starting to hike all day...set everything and with our quite heavy backpacks we started hiking up the hills, surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes, breathing fresh air and enjoying the sun...I have to say that the myth of Swiss cows is damn true! They were everywhere!!! Passed the hills we started walking down towards a small village called Hauptsee, nothing really special there but a good starting point to go all around this huge lake: the Agerhisee. Me and Gabriel decided to have a swim to take the fatigue away...how else if not naked?! The water was very cold but the experience of swimming in such a clean lake surrounded by the Alps was priceless! We decided to stop after 12 kms hike, so we found a nice little beach by the lake where pitched our tent and started a fire...took a while but we did it! We cooked some noodles and soup (had to make chines sticks out of branches and a cup out of a bottle), had some beers from the near village...a really nice evening...Unfortunately late in the night a mather**** came to send us away because is not legal to pitch a tent! ARGHHHH...if that was not enough it also started to ...

I'll run through our journey so far. Our flight from Dublin to London was delayed 2 hours which was great on the Dublin side because it meant more drinks with Emma, but not so good on the London side because it meant we got in too late to make it out to Caoimhe's place for the night. So we slept in the airport. Now when I say slept... we got a few mins here and there. So we finally got to Trinidad (after another flight delay of about an hour and a half) on Saturday and stayed out at Maracas Bay. Its a really nice spot, with palm trees by the beach and moutains with jungle vegetation complete with cloud mist at the tops. Quite the scenic place. We then travelled to Port of Spain on Sunday morning to get the ferry to Tobago. The port ran like a well oiled machine, and by well oiled machine I mean a pig circus! We were lucky to get away with our lives. Lets just say when the excess tickets went on sale (they had to wait for all the locals to check in with their monthly passes etc before selling these) we were nearly trampled into the ground. Most well known for the Bridge over the River Kwai (which is apparently a really famous movie?) the small city felt like a large metropolitan after Sangklaburi. In our attempt to try every kind of interesting transportation Thailand has to offer, Shana and I, as well as our backpacks, ended up on the back of a bicycle rickshaw. While we offered to take two, the driver assured us he could handle it, so we spent the ride through town not admiring the sites but praying he didn't have a heart attack! Soon we arrived at our guest house, located on the serene Kwai river. We happily took hot showers (what a surprise) and then ventured out to explore the town. It felt funny to be around so many tourists after our last stop, but we were happy to enjoy fruit shakes and internet cafes. After a yummy Thai lunch and the end of a really bad movie at the guest house, we fell fast asleep. The next morning we were off to see Iriwan Waterfall, said to be the most beautiful waterfall in Thailand. I tried to convince him that #3 is the bus the team will be travelling on!!! Eleven of us travelled in the mini van going to the ferry - this meant that all the backpacks went on the roof and yes, the skies opened!! Luckily it was onlyfor a few minutes andnothing got too wet. After about an hour on the ferrywe arrived at Koh Phangan, another island in the Gulf of Thailand, famous for it's FullMoon parties where all the plastic hippies congregate. We opted for a beach on thenorth east isde of the island which is on the opposite side from Haad Rin where the sun sets on one beach and rises on the other beach - the biggest challenge for most is rememberring which beach is for what!! Very few roads in Koh Phangan are paved and the road to our beach was a jungle road. We shared a taxi (pick up truck) with another couple and their 3 year old son. The airport in Labuan Bajo is really small with only one runway. There were plenty of people waiting for us when we landed, so finding a taxi to town was no problem. We didn't arrange any accomodation in advance and thought it would be as easy to find one as in other places, but we couldn't be more wrong. There aren't many places to stay in Labuan Bajo and most of them were full, so we had to walk for a long time in the afternoon heat dragging around our mega backpacks, but luckily we got the last room in Bajo Beach Hotel. The place was not great, it was a bit dirty and stinky and had the standard Flores bathroom inventory deluxe - cold mandi (water tank with a scoop) and a western toilet (pure standard is a squat). Eventually we were happy we had a place to sleep. Labuan Bajo itself is not such an interesting place, but it stands at a very beautiful bay dotted with small islands. Entry: "Every time we mentioned our interest in visiting this holy city to Indian people, they said: "Why do foreigners want to go to Varanas, that is a DIRTY, DIRTY city!". Despite all of the warnings this is a place that shouldn't be missed and we were literally right next door, so we headed there after our "swim less" visit to Allahabad. We got quite overzealous and actually called one of the LP recommendations on the train ride there to secure a room and a lift to the hotel upon arrival. After a bit of searching, we found a young man with a sign indicating he was our driver a few minutes later we had to get off the car and take foot as all of the hotels were located near the ghats. A few near puke experiences later, we arrived at the Urvashi Guesthouse and let's just say it's the kind of place you bring your own lock for the door...This was the worse place we set our backpacks down at to date. The owner was really great and tried his hardest to make us feel welcome, but effort alone couldn't remove the grime from the bathroom :( I must add this place cost 8 USD a night for a room with a private bathroom). I must have been delusional to expect any better. Hell they didn't even charge us for the ride back from the train station and ...
