Entry from: Perquin, El Salvador Entry Title: "Las Veraneras, Perquin" Entry: "We stayed with a family near Perquin. We took a bus, and then went in a small truck, the kind we use to put sheep in it, which took us minutes away from the place, and then walked the rest with our heavy backpacks on. The place has a pool filled up over the years with rain water, we went for a deep, it was a bit muddy and the bottom felt like a lake. We slept in a small cabina, lit by a candle (because the place has no water and no electricty, they drink the rain water and cook with it, and use candles at night), the lady cooked us dinner, which was the same as breakfast: beans from the garden, eggs from the chicken, cheese from the cow and homemade tortilla. The owner, a mum of two grown adults, live there with her adoptive daughter, who in turn has two small children. A third child lives there, his mum just dropped him off one morning when he was a baby because she couldn´t look after him. They live off the few gringos that come by, the people who want to swim or play soccer on her field, and of what she cultivates: beans, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, bananas and coffee.
