Entry: "Every time we mentioned our interest in visiting this holy city to Indian people, they said: "Why do foreigners want to go to Varanas, that is a DIRTY, DIRTY city!". Despite all of the warnings this is a place that shouldn't be missed and we were literally right next door, so we headed there after our "swim less" visit to Allahabad. We got quite overzealous and actually called one of the LP recommendations on the train ride there to secure a room and a lift to the hotel upon arrival. After a bit of searching, we found a young man with a sign indicating he was our driver a few minutes later we had to get off the car and take foot as all of the hotels were located near the ghats. A few near puke experiences later, we arrived at the Urvashi Guesthouse and let's just say it's the kind of place you bring your own lock for the door...This was the worse place we set our backpacks down at to date. The owner was really great and tried his hardest to make us feel welcome, but effort alone couldn't remove the grime from the bathroom :( I must add this place cost 8 USD a night for a room with a private bathroom). I must have been delusional to expect any better. Hell they didn't even charge us for the ride back from the train station and ...
